Latest Update. . .
Final Reviews of the season. . .Three big reviews -- finally getting around to Comic-Con and Wizard World, and don't miss the Chicago Non-Sport Expo Review! Expanded Galleries It's been a busy year so far at Webjon! The art gallery has vastly expanded. 70 artists are represented in the art gallery, and a comic book page gallery has been added -- even more artists are represented in that gallery, which consists of comic book panel pages as well as splashes and covers. More art is on it's way as I get pieces scanned, and I have obtained a few great pieces that will find their way into the galleries. Among recent acquisitions is the awesome Steven Miller sketch card pictured at right. . . yes, folks that is a sketch card. I love Miller's style in this piece -- I really feel like I am seeing his personal style come through as he isn't held down to any sort of license. He asked me what to draw, and all I said was 'Dragon.' He didn't just nail it, he drove it out of the park, and the beauty of this sketch card is how different it is from most sketch cards. The color background on the card make the piece really feel like art, rather than a card. Awesome card.
Tired of paying for web programming?
It dawned on me while doing some technical support for artists: Few people like learning a second profession to have a presence on the interenet, but pretty much everyone has to have a website of some sort in this day and age. . . If you are one of those people who either needs a website, or needs website updates, but is tired of paying someone to give you late and or unprofessional work I have an offer for you. . . I’m willing to ‘work for art’ . . . to trade your skills (art) for my skills – ohh yeah. . . what are my skills? I started developing web sites for a Landmark Communications (owns The Weather Channel and such) collectibles magazine division (which was later sold to Krause Publications) in 1996. Since then I have been active in web development steadily, in fact now I am a web programmer for a fortune 100 company. Beyond that I’ve been writing for Non-Sport Update magazine for a number of years so I do have some communication skills. But most importantly I’m fan and collector. . . so I’m passionate about art – unlike some of these web guys who are working for your paycheck and really don’t know or care much about collecting or art. Interested in a trade? Drop me an email: jon @ webjon . com
Welcome to the new webjon.com!!!!
Hello Collectors!Believe it or not this overhaul has been in the works for over a year. This is actually the 2nd incarnation of an overhaul -- the first redesign was almost completely thrown away. This site now more accurately fits my life. Initially I had hoped for TONS of support from fellow collectors and surfers, however after the initial enthusiasm for the site died down box breakdowns, show reviews and additions to the autograph gallery were practically non-existant. Thus the autograph gallery and box breakdown section became abysmally outdated, and while Non-Sport Update currently has a great breakdown forum on their board Card Talk if there is enough interest any of these sections can be brought back (check the poll towards the bottom of the page, or send me an email -- collect @ webjon . com. So with the lack out outside contributions and my being busy with life, penning for Non-Sport Update, trying to redesign the site, etc, the entire site became stale. Additionally due to a lack of space a bunch of my trading card collection ended up in storage making trading difficult. I still have access to chase cards, and whatever I've picked up recently, but for the most part sets, partial sets and commons are totally inaccessible for the forseeable future. Going forward I plan to focus my efforts for the site on show reviews, and card/art galleries, as well as general news, resources and show information. Trade lists may return, as well as other portions of the old site if there is interest. I'm always open to ideas as well, including if there is something you'd like to have hosted or posted on webjon.com.Guess that's about it. . . if you have questions or comments feel free to email me, or use the comments feature (click 'comments' at the bottom of the post, no registration needed) on this posting. Hope everyone is enjoying collecting, and perhaps we'll bump elbows at the nearest card show. Happy Collecting! |
